Submission Guidelines:

Just like the library itself, Calliope, our teen digital literary magazine is a family-friendly environment. In order to contribute to the magazine, you must follow these guidelines:

• Be a middle or high school student who lives in or near Buena Park.
• If under 18, you must have permission from your parent/legal guardian in order to submit.
• Be respectful to your fellow contributors, editors, and library staff.
• Make sure that your contributions do not include profanity, obscenity, hate speech, or graphic/violent imagery.
• Do not use copyrighted materials (articles, videos, audio, etc.) without permission.
• Only submit original work. Plagiarism is not acceptable. If your submission includes work that is not your own and you do not credit the original source or try to pass it off as your own then your submissions will be removed from the magazine, you will no longer be able to volunteer at the library, and any community service hours that you have earned will be erased. 
• Make sure your submissions follow the rules for their categories:
  • Short stories must be under 8 pages long.
  • Book reviews must be at least 300 words.
  • All text (poems, short stories, book review) must be submitted in a Word or Google Docs format.
  • All art must be submitted in a JPEG or PNG format.
